Welcome to Shannon by the Sea, my very own passion project filled with my love for travel, good food, great family and friends, and most importantly living life to the fullest.

This blog is just my way of sharing all my fun experiences and travels, and especially the stories that are told along the way.  Not everyday can be a great day, but I will always look for the silver lining, even when it's hard to see.

So join me! Hopefully we'll learn something new along the way.

About Me

I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive in today’s crazy world; your personality, your sense of humour, and most importantly, your heart.

All of these elements brought me to start Shannon by the Sea.

I am the lucky lady who is married to her best friend, and love of my life.

I am the step-mom of 3 amazing boys, and a beautiful daughter-in-law.

My newest role is being "Shanny" to our precious granddaughter, Brooklyn-Marie.

My husband and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada during the warm months.

When the weather turns cold, we are off to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

We love to travel, visit family and friends

and all the great experiences that come with living everyday to its fullest.

I am so happy that you have joined me on my journeys,

and look forward to getting to know you.

Punta Cana: Why?

Updated: Dec 6, 2018

My husband and I have been spending our winters in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for the past three years. Previously we travelled throughout Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Europe, all over the US and Caribbean, but have found our hearts in Punta Cana.

32 km's of white sand beach, crystal blue water and a consistent sunny 29 degree weather, why not? That being said, we have also made a lot of friends from the Dominican Republic, all over Canada and the United States. We often joke that we have more of a social life here then we do back in Nova Scotia (our other home base). Then again, that's actually the truth! I will share posts about the fun things we do with our friends.

People will question us how we are able to live here for 5 months, and to be honest, it does take work. We are retired, we worked hard to get to this place, and we live on a (semi) budget all year round. Well, other than some on-line shopping occasionally (curse you Amazon).

Well, that makes me sound like I am a old lady. Old, not so much (44 at the time of this post), lady (depends on the day LOL). All I know is that if you can, you do. I hope that anyone deciding to follow my adventures, big & small, will enjoy them as much as I hope to.
